Colby grew up in Fort Worth, TX and she spent her time exploring all kinds of creative passions—singing, writing, baking, painting, and performing. When she got diagnosed with severe dyslexia at 8, she went through years of therapy just so she could read. Creative arts became her escape, and she started writing and singing at a young age.
By 14, she was co-writing with her producer and brother, RJ Johnson, a Berklee College of Music grad. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her singing (or screaming) along to her favorite tunes while driving. Her ultimate goal is to make songs that people will want to blast in their cars and belt out, helping them escape whatever’s holding them back and “Dead Giveaway” is just that.
“I wrote Dead Giveaway about those moments in a relationship—romantic or platonic—when you realize there’s no real depth there,” shares colby!. “You’re putting in the effort to keep things going, but it’s clear the other person isn’t meeting you halfway, and they’re unlikely to change. There’s nothing left to save, and it’s time to accept that you need to go your separate ways.”

It’s clear that Colby has a lot to say and she is here to stay which really makes us happy. Her voice and sound are exciting and fresh and her lyrics are poetic and emotional, all this while keeping it simple and relaxing.
