Greek indie trio Stray Blue returns with Wake Up & Smile – Acoustic Version, a heartfelt two-track release arriving July 18, 2025. Marking the band’s 20-year anniversary, the EP features an intimate acoustic rendition of their signature anthem alongside “Moody Sky,” a cinematic collaboration with acclaimed cellist Yoed Nir.

Founded by Nick Anastasakis (vocals, guitar) in Chania, Crete, and joined by George Athanas (bass, vocals) and George Papazoglou (drums), Stray Blue is known for their soulful musicianship and sincere songwriting. Their music reflects life’s emotions with a spirit of resilience and hope. The EP was recorded in Thessaloniki, using a 12-string guitar in a unique tuning that adds warmth and depth to its acoustic textures.

The title track, digitally remastered by Angelos Evangelou at Playshop Studio, revisits the band’s origins while offering a timeless message: “life is not always the way you want it to be… just wake up and smile.” Meanwhile, “Moody Sky” brings lush, atmospheric tones with Nir’s expressive cello adding cinematic weight to themes of reflection and emotional longing.

Stray Blue’s story began with a spontaneous 2005 recording of “Wake Up & Smile,” quickly launching them into the Greek live music scene. Over the years, they’ve performed at iconic venues across Crete and even brought their music to audiences in New York and Los Angeles through Nick’s solo project, The Afro Nick. Though the band’s last official performance was in 2011, whispers of a return suggest their journey isn’t over yet.

As Nick reflects, “Music can unite people and nations… It’s an international language that unifies us.” With this acoustic release, Stray Blue continues to do just that, offering music that connects, uplifts, and endures.
